Six minutes at the Comedy Cave

Tuesday night I was invited back down to the Comedy Cave for my second guest spot on their stage. Like last time, the crowd was amazing, and the room was very comfortable. The headliner this week is the amazing Sugar Sammy, a Canadian with East-Indian descent who’s edgy humour had the crowd rolling …

Stand-Up Against Spinal Cord Injury

Monday Jan 28th, Comedy Monday Night transformed itself into a charity gala, to raise money for the Canadian Paraplegic Association. As opposed to the usual “open mic” format of CMN, this past Monday was an all-star gala starring Kevin Stobo, and featuring Stan Thompson as well as the most illustrious alumni of Comedy Monday Night …

Paul Kuster, on “Indian Time” at the Stavely Hotel

I had a chance to step out a bit this past Saturday night when I traveled back to my hometown of Stavely, Alberta for a show at the Stavely Hotel. I lived in Stavely from 1969-1976, from age 3 almost to age 10, and I took my grades 1-3 at Stavely Elementary …

… works in Absurd and Ironic ways …

The more I look at the world, the more I think God must have a supreme sense of the absurd, and an edge of irony sharper than the sharpest razor. As my year end post for 2007, I wrote an entry on the absurdity of some of the major news events of the year, but absurdity and irony pop up in more mundane places as well …

A long and windy road

Its been a pretty full week so far, and a lot of fun. From Pauly Shore on Saturday night, I was back home for a day to rest a bit, then right back at it again in Calgary with two more shows. As usual, I was down at Dickens Pub for Comedy Monday Night, and it was another fun night. Jane Stanton headlined the night, and she did a great job of closing out a VERY long show …

Rockin’ the Firehall … Pauly Shore live at LBN

I think I’ve had the best night of my comedy career so far. It’s one thing to play a sold-out show … it’s another all together to play two in a row. And its another level again when the crowd energy is as high as it was last night …

Tuesday at the Comedy Cave

Its been a busy week. Along with finalizing the plans for the Pauly Shore show on Saturday, I had a chance to step onto the Comedy Cave stage for the first time, with a 5 minute guest spot. I must say, I enjoyed the experience immensely. The he…

“Rilly big shewwww …”

At this very early point in my comedy career, I’m looking to get whatever stage time I can. The old adage of “practice, practice, practice” is just as true for comedy as it is for anything else, and any stage time is good stage time for me right now …

Laughing at the Shamrock

This past Thursday night I stepped out of my normal routine a little bit to do a show organized by a Calgary comedian I’d never worked with before, Stu Hughes, the main force behind the Calgary FunnyFest, from May 1-11. The show on Thursday Jan 10th, at the Shamrock hotel in Calgary, was essentially a late Christmas party, and appreciation night for the volunteers of FunnyFest …

Another year of Comedy Monday Night

January 8th, 2008 marked the first edition of Comedy Monday Night for the year, and as usual, it was loads of fun. There was a huge line up of comics for the show, perhaps the longest line up I’ve seen at Dickens. By the end of the night, we’d seen no fewer than 17 comics on stage, ranging in experience from first-timers to the Dickens stage, right up to seasoned pros …
